Putnam, Charles F. Acton Funeral Home, date of death August 27, 2010 age 90, of Acton, died Friday, August 27, 2010 at the LifeCare Center of Acton after a brief illness. Born and raised in Claremont, NH., he was the son of the late Samuel Richardson Putnam and Bernice O. (Webb) Putnam, natives of Vermont. Mr. Putnam served honorably in the US Navy as a Lieutenant in the Russell and Solomon Islands in the South Pacific during WW II. He earned a bachelor’s degree and MBA from Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH. His entire banking career was with the First National Bank of Boston, retiring as Vice President after 44 years in 1985. An Acton resident since 1956, he was the town’s former cemetery commissioner. Mr. Putnam was active in the church community, serving as Treasurer of the American Baptist Association, and in various capacities at the West Acton Baptist Church, Acton, where he was a longtime member. He was a second generation member of the Framingham Heart Study, and one of the longest insulin dependent diabetes survivors in the nation. An avid genealogist, he was a member of the Mayflower Society, and enjoyed traveling throughout Vermont and New Hampshire. He is survived by five sons, William S. Putnam and wife Lupe of Lancaster, MA., Bern W. Putnam and wife Elizabeth of St. John, US Virgin Islands, Donald B. Putnam and wife Debby of Parkland, FL., David A. Putnam and wife Mariann of Escondido, CA., and Stephen M. Putnam of Littleton, MA.; six beloved grandchildren, Alexa A., Matthew A. Heidi K., Jonathan A., Samuel C. and Kendall M. Putnam; and a sister, Lillian M. Putnam of Newport, NH. All are invited to visiting hours Mon. Aug. 30th from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at the Acton Funeral Home, 470 Massachusetts Ave (Rte 111) Acton, and to the memorial service on Tues. Aug. 31st at 2 p.m. in the West Acton Baptist Church, 592 Massachusetts Ave (junction of Rte 111 and Central St.,) West Acton, with a reception to follow in the church hall. Burial in West Claremont Cemetery in Claremont will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312.
